Geocache Description:

Bâtie vers 1550, cette demeure de haut rang se compose de deux bâtiments, l’un sur rue, l’autre sur jardin, reliés par un couloir latéral desservant un escalier en vis. Les cuisines du sous-sol prennent leurs jours sur la cour surbaissée, au pied de la façade sur jardin. Sous cette cour est aménagée une citerne pour l’eau de pluie, puisée depuis une margelle sommée d’une coupole.

La façade développe un rythme complexe constitué par deux niveaux et une alternance de travées larges et étroites. Les colonnettes aux ordres ionique et corinthien scandent chaque niveau en accentuant le relief de la composition d’ensemble. Les meneaux et les croisillons en pierre des fenêtres participent au quadrillage de la façade. Foisonnante et variée, la frise supérieure constituée d’ornements végétaux s’oppose à la sobriété et à la régularité de la frise inférieure, composée de crânes d’animaux, ou bucranes. La porte en plein-cintre rehaussée d’une ouverture et d’un fronton triangulaire est décorée d’une guirlande végétale d’où sortent mufle de lion et têtes de bélier.

Soyez discret, le site est fréquenté. La boite est une petite boite d'un cachet effervescent, contenant un petit logbook uniquement. Prenez un stylo pour vous loguer. Attention une autre boite (ciste - autre jeu de piste) se trouve dans le mur opposé derrière le bac à fleur en pierre.

Built around 1550 this residence of very high quality is composed of two buildings, one which gives on to the street, the other on to the garden, and which are linked by a lateral corridor which leads to a spiral staircase. The basement kitchens are located on the garden side giving on to a lower courtyard. Underneath this courtyard there is a rainwater cistern, whose water was drawn from a well topped with a small dome.

The facade has a complex rhythm of two levels with an alternation of large and narrow bays. The small columns of the Ionic and Corinthian orders articulate each level whilst accentuating the relief of the ensemble. The stone transoms and mullions of the windows are a part of the layout of the facade. Profuse and varied, the upper frieze made up of vegetal ornaments contrasts with the sobriety and the orderliness of the lower frieze, which is composed of bovine skulls. The door, in a closed arch topped by an opening and a triangular pediment, is decorated by a garland with a lion’s muzzle and rams’ heads.

Be discreet, the site is frequented. The box is a small box with an effervescent stamp, containing a small logbook only. Take a pen to log in. Beware, another box (cistus - another treasure hunt) is in the opposite wall behind the stone flower box.
