Courcelles fut jusqu'au XVIIIème siècle le centre d'une baronnie ; Courcelotte. En 1245, Simon de Châteauvillain fait construire, au bord de l'Aujon, un château-fort entouré de larges fossés. Le puissant Baron de Courcelotte est aussi seigneur de Ternat et de Chameroy. Pendant des siècles, ce château est occupé par les seigneurs de Plaine, puis par la famille de Saulx, tous vassaux du seigneur d'Arc-en-Barrois.
En bordure de la place, en 1660, un riche marchand de Courcelles, Euvrard Belime et sa femme Anne Cudel, font ériger une chapelle indépendante de celle du château. Son autel est placé sous la protection de Sainte Anne, en remerciement envers la généreuse donatrice.
De cette période fastueuse il ne reste aujourd’hui du château-fort (démoli après la Révolution) qu’une entrée de la cave voutée.

The given coordinates are those of the place of the village where you will park your car.
Courcelles was until XVIIIth century the center of a barony; Courcelotte. In 1245, Simon de Châteauvillain makes build, at the edge of Aujon, a castle surrounded with wide ditches. Powerful Baron de Courcelotte is also a Lord of Ternat and Chameroy. During centuries, this castle is occupied by the Lords of Plaine, then by the family of Saulx, every vassals of the Lord of Arc-en-Barrois.
In border of the place, in 1660, a rich trader of Courcelles, Euvrard Belime and his wife Anne Cudel, make set up a chapel independent from that of the castle. Its altar is placed under the protection of Holy Anne, in thanking to the generous giver.
Of this luxurious period of the castle (demolished after the Revolution), it does not stay more than an entry of the cellar today.
