Prvá cementáren na výrobu portlandského cementu bola postavená v Ladcoch v roku 1889 a jej majitelom bol viedenský bankár a velkostatkár Adolf Schenk. Surovinu cerpali z nedalekého lomu v lokalite Butkov, kde sa taží dodnes.
V Trencianskom kraji sa vysoko využívajú cementárske korekcné suroviny ako sú
sialitické suroviny a slien. Nachádzajú sa v okrese Trencín (ložisko Horné Srnie) a v okrese
Ilava (ložisko Ladce – Butkov). Ich životnost sa odhaduje na niekolko desiatok rokov,
v prípade sialitickej suroviny na 146 rokov.
