Geocache Description:

This is a traditional cache hidden in the township of Portville as part of the Enchanted Mountains GeoTrail series.

Located on the lush mountainside of Pfeiffer Nature Center’s Eshelman Property, the search for this geocache will give you a glimpse into the cultural past of this area when families farmed both field and forest. The geocache contains information of interest regarding the property as well as the keyword needed for the EMGT.

As always for a geocache in this series, this keyword is on the lid of the cache as well as in the log book. Please note that there are two logbooks, one for Pfeiffer Nature Center and one for the EMGT.

This is a geocache which will take about 45 minutes of steady walking up through pasturage and fields now abandoned and in transition, and into the forest to reach the geocache site, not far from the old sugarbush. While the paths are clear and well marked, hiking boots or sturdy shoes are recommended; due to surface springs, the footpath is often wet and muddy, even in the driest seasons. The views and the hike are wonderful.

This property is open only dawn to dusk. Pfeiffer Nature Center has decided to close the area to geocaching October 1st – December 31st because of hunting on this parcel. Any finds during this time will be deleted.

In order to get to the Eshelman Property, follow State Route 305 to the jct of Deercreek Rd and turn west (N42.03.277/W78.18.693). Follow the road to turn left ontoYubadam Road . Signage for the Pfeiffer Nature Center is on the right hand side, just beyond the bridge over Dodge Creek.

Many thanks are owed to Pfeiffer Nature Center and its staff for the care and assistance in placing this cache and for the additional FTF prize. (The EMGT also has a FTF prize in the cache.)
