Geocache Description:

Chersonissos is situated 25 km to the east of Heraklion, in the Mallia bay.

It has been inhabited since the Minoan times - 1500 b.C., and during all the historic periods – Classical, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, Turkish until today’s modern Greek.

The area of Chersonissos consists of several small beaches and villages and is a main tourist destination in Crete. The harbor of Hersonissos is famous for its beaches, night life and shops. The neighbouring villages offer quiet and peaceful environment for family holidays.

At the very western end of the bay, in the area of Anissaras, there is the small old church of Agios Georgios. Protected by the archaeological authorities, it’s one of the few places that seems unspoilt by tourism. A swim at the small, protected from the northern wind beaches near the area, a walk to the church and a beer at sunset will sure help you relax.

The cache is hidden near the small church. If you go by car you can park by the restaurant – café Saradari at N 35 19.977 E 025 23.051. It’s a small dead-end road and then you‘ll need to walk a little bit.

The cache is a film canister, which contains only a logbook, so you need to have a pen with you. The container also contains a small magnet, so you can use a metal item to pull it out of its hide, in case it is difficult with your fingers. Mind the muggles that go fishing or strolling in the area.
