Geocache Description:

Aplūkojiet to. Kad ieraugāt attēlā redzamo simbolu, palūkojieties sev aiz muguras. ~10 m no jums noslēpta pirmā norāde (kādreizējais tradicionālais konteineris).

Lūdzu, nemeklējiet to iežogotajā pieminekļa teritorijā, kārbiņa atrodas ārpus tās! Izturieties ar pietāti pret šo nozīmīgo vietu!

[ENG] Originally this was a traditional cache, but, surprise, surprise, the director of the museum added some more multi points without even letting me know! :) However the CACHE TYPE CAN'T BE CHANGED TO MULTI due to the large number of founds, really, I have tried.

In this place on 6th of March,
1919, colonel Oskars Kalpaks, commander Nikolajs Grundmanis, first lieutenant Peteris Krievs and lieutenant Johans-Hanss Srinders were killed in a battle for the independence of Latvia. Oskars Kalpaks was the commander of first Latvian military unit. The situation there in Latvia in 1918 - 1919 was unstable and unpredictable, but in spite of that Kalpaks managed to form a patriotic, united and disciplined army battalion which fought for the independence of Latvia.

Oskars Kalpaks monument was unveiled in year 1922. Later the monuments for other officers followed. A museum dedicated to Oskars Kalpaks was established in year 1936. During Soviet times the museum and memorial were destroyed but this place became a secret symbol of yearning for the independence of Latvia for the inhabitants of this district. It was forbidden to attend this place then – people came here at night or early mornings to bring some flowers in memory of the brave Latvian officers. Now the memorial is re-established.

You will have to act stealthily to find this cache too. The coordinates show the location of memorial. Take a look at it! When you see the symbol which can be seen in the picture, look back! The first clue is located 10 meters from you. Please don’t search for it in the enclosed area of memorial! The cache is located outside! Please respect this significant place! ;)

This is the first cache from the series dedicated to history of Latvia - "We still remember".
