Well, you see, there *used* to be this cool monocable system here that transported coal from the Maramarua coalfield, some 10 kms, to the Meremere coal-fired power station on the bank of the Waikato river. In fact, there were two - one either side of the road.
The dual monocable/bucket systems were capable of delivering up to 300 tons of coal to the power station from the coalfield every hour.
When the Meremere power station was decommissioned in 1991, the coal delivery system was no longer required and has since been removed, leaving only this dead straight road and the concrete plinths that formed the foundations of the monocable towers.
This cache is located near one of the concrete plinths that remain beside the road, as seen in the image below. Don't be tempted to park on the plinth as you may be rewarded with damage to your tyres - there is ample parking just across the road.
Please rehide so that the cache cannot be casually seen from any angle.
