There are several places to park on either side of the bridge, not on it. If you breathe in and you’ve been on a diet you can even drive over. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE STAMP. THIS IS A LETTERBOX CACHE.
Weetwood Bridge stands on the St Cuthbert’s Way, just east of Wooler on the B6348. The earlier bridge on this site is said to have been used by the English soldiers on the way to fight at Flodden, some 8 miles north west of here.
Weetwood Bridge dates from the 16th Century and spans the Till River, the only English tributary of the River Tweed. It has been altered much in its history; a carving on the south side of the bridge carries the date ‘1775’, though there are also later 19th century changes. It has just gone through major renovation work costing £650,000. This is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Monument
There are four recesses on the sides of the bridge where at one time there must have been statues, of what, I couldn't find out. There are some great views from the bridge, Wooler up stream and the surrounding hills especially in summer when the heather is in flower and in winter with the snow.
Container contains:- Log book and pencil and as it's a letterbox cache a rubber stamp and ink pad to stamp your log book.
