A quiet place of contemplation.
I bring tourist groups here all the time. They all say it is a quiet place to get away from the madness of traffic and touts in Vietnam. There is an entry fee, but once again as the Citadel is the main reason why people come to Hue, I do not see this as a problem. Just in case, there is another cache in Hue that is free to find.
This ancient citadel was the site of the former capital of Vietnam. During the American war it was both captured by the North Vietnamese and then the South Vietnamese and Americans. It was also bombed by the Americans when held by the NV forces. As a result, it is not as beautiful or intact as it once was.
The cache is located on top of a platform that was once a pagoda but now lies in ruin. It is however a good place to get a solid GPS signal, and 4 metre accuracy was possible. (See I am learning Geocaching terms!) The cache is in a small indentation in the stone on the north side of this structure.
Elsewhere in the Citadel you can see elephant rides, and at the northern entrance, you can see the remains of bullet holes from the war.
