Geocache Description:

The cache is near the ancient stadium and theatre/odeon of Rhodes. The area is saint Stefens Hill also known as Monte Smith.

This monumental area formed one of the most important centres of worship, education and recreation for the citizens of ancient Rhodes.
At the top of the hill are the remains of Hellenistic temples, the most visible of which are the majestic columns of the Temple of Apollo. Below the temple is the Hellenistic stadium, built in the 3rd century BC, where the athletic events of the Aleia Games took place. Those were part of the major festival of the ancient Rhodians held in honor of the sun god, Helios.
Next to this stadium once stood one of the two known Gymnasia of ancient Rhodes, where philosophy, grammar, rhetoric and music were taught.

The best time of the year to visit is spring as nature is then then at its best.

The cache is an original army decon container that is big enough to hold geocoins or very small trackables. There is a log and a pencil inside. Please make sure you close the container well to protect the content from the weather elements.

Small note on the maintenance: The owner of the cache is frequently in Rhodes. During any absense periods, the cache will be maintained by his family that live in Rhodes permanently.
