This cache is designed to support the International Geocaching ‘Cache in; Trash out Campaign’ (‘CITO’) set for May 2nd/3rd 2009.
The cache is a firmly sealed plastic cylinder measuring 10 x 5 cm and is easy (but not too easy) to find. It is located under a pile of small rocks near ‘Pontal Gordo’ from where there are magnificent views across the ‘Enseada do Belixe’ towards Praia do Tonel and Ponta de Sagres. The nearby Forte de Belixe is clearly visible across the bay. Park at N 37º 01.646’; W 008º 59.135’ (600 m from the cache site) by the Sagres – Cabo S. Vicente roadside or travel by 4-WD vehicle. The track is rocky and rough.
The area is one of outstanding beauty with many different species of wild flowers, plants and bushes to be observed. It is especially beautiful in Spring when one can absorb its splendour. BUT…..The area is littered with rubbish – Man’s legacy to this beautiful planet.
So, please come armed with a pair of gloves and a large trash bag and put in it at least five items of rubbish to be collected from the surrounding area. Then, when you log your find, please itemise what you found (not in lurid detail please) and how you helped to clean up this beautiful place. Thanks
Initial cache contents, apart from the usual notebook, pencil, and pencil sharpener were: 1 Xilb coin, domino, bead, encased Portuguese escudo postage stamp; funny man, and Geocaching badge.
