Geocache Description:

st catherines stained glass window

Stained glass is one of this churches most striking features. In the North wall are three single lights, depicting Mary with the baby Jesus, Jesus ministering to the sick and the Good Shepherd.

Two double windows on the south wall show St Andrew and St Peter and the disciples in the cornfields with the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

The belfry contains two medieval bells cast between 1461 and 1481. They are the work of John Keybyll and are two of only eight such bells in the counrty. the smaller bell is inscribed Santca Katarina Ora Pro Nobis - St Katherine Pray for us. While the larger bell bears the inscription Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum - Blessed be the name of the Lord. Both bells carry the Keybyll coat of arms as well a a coronetand four fleurs-de lys in a lozenge. They are now hung for stationary chiming one above the other

The church is kept open all day for people to visit and for those who need somewhere peaceful for prayer or quiet contemplation

This cache was set with the full knowledge of Father Phillip who often popped over to watch unsuspecting cachers flounder around looking for this cache.

Sadly I have just heard that Father Phillip passed away on Monday 10th May 2010. I will miss his smiling face and our little chats, he was always keen to hear caching stories, never quite understood why we were out looking for filmpots and such but he was certainly in favour of anything that brought more people to his wonderful church

When you find this cache please take a moment to remember Father Phillip.

Please bring your own pen to sign the logsheet - extreme stealth will be required so be prepared to be sneaky

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, could you please let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
