Wellamo Cache Raid 2009
 
Päijänne-talo

This cache was created for the Wellamo Cache Raid 2009. On April 18th 2009 more than twenty cachers in the Päijänne Tavastia area decided to join forces and create a bunch of caches simultaneously to bring delight and despair to our fellow cachers.
Päijännetalo (The Päijänne House) is an old dairy that was renovated and partly re-built in the 1990's and now it serves as a fishing and nature tourism service centre. It hosts, among other things, Finland's most extensive museum of recreational fishing and also an exhibition about the Päijänne tunnel, which is a rock tunnel used to convey drinking water from the lake Päijänne 120 kilometres southwards to the inhabitants of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. There's also a lot of general tourist information available, so it is an excellent starting point for the casual traveller coming to visit Asikkala or the Päijänne Tavastia region in general.

There is a small entrance fee (5€/3€) to the museum. It is not necessary to visit the museum to find the cache, but I heartily recommend it.

Wellamo Cache Raid 2009 -kätkö. 18.4.2009 reilu parikymmentä Päijät-Hämäläistä kätköilijää yhdistivät voimansa ja julkaisivat kertaheitolla läjän kätköjä kanssakätköilijöitä ihastuttamaan ja vihastuttamaan.
Päijännetalo on entinen meijeri, joka remontoitiin ja osittain rakennettiin uudelleen 90-luvulla ja nyt siinä toimii kalastus- ja luontokeskus. Siellä on mm. Suomen laajin vapaa-ajan kalastusaiheinen museo ja näyttely kallioon louhitusta Päijänne-tunnelista, jota käytetään juomaveden johtamiseen Päijänteesta 120 kilometriä etelään pääkaupunkiseudun asukkaille. Talossa on myös tarjolla runsaasti erilaistoa tietoa turisteille, joten se on erinomainen aloituspaikka satunnaiselle matkaajalle, joka vierailee Asikkalassa tai ylipäänsä Päijät-Hämeen alueella.

Museoon on pieni (5€/3€) pääsymaksu. Kätkön löytääkseen ei tarvitse mennä sisälle museoon, mutta suosittelen sitä lämpimästi kaikille.
