L'Orme de Manon
Cet orme est sans doute le plus vieil arbre de chalon sur Saône. La date présumée de sa plantation serait celle de 1625, sous le règne de louis XIII. Seul survivant de l'abattage de la grande plantation de marronniers en 1890, sa vie croise celle de Manon
This elm is perhaps the oldest tree Chalon sur Saône. The date of the planting would be 1625, during the reign of Louis XIII. Only survivor of the slaughter of the great chestnut trees planted in 1890, his life intersects that of Manon
Manon vivait au XIXème siècle. La légende dit qu'elle s'asseyait sur les grosses racines de l'Orme et tout en tricotant, chantait des cantiques, des chants révolutionnaires et des chansons légères. Ainsi l'histoire de l?orme devint désormais, dans les consciences chalonnaises, inséparable de celle de Manon
Manon lived in the nineteenth century. The legend says that she was sitting sometimes on the large roots of the Orme and while she was knitting, she sang religious, popular and revolutionary songs. The history of elm is now in the spirit of Chalon, inseparable from that of Manon.
Traité sans succès l?orme meurt en 1985 de la graphiose (empoisonnement de la sève par un champignon).

Un an plus tard sculpté par Yves Gaillard, l'arbre reprend vie et devient un objet d'art.
En 1994 on découvre que l'arbre est creux sur près de 3m de haut. La mairie de Chalon entreprend sa restauration. Il est transporté dans le jura pour y être traité et reviendra a chalon pour afin de le réimplanter consolidé d'armatures métalliques.
A year later sculpted by Yves Gaillard, the tree back to life and becomes an object of art.
In 1994 we discover that the tree is hollow almost 3m high. The mayor of Chalon undertake its restoration. It is transported in the jura for treatment and then return in chalon to relocate it here ; now some metal frames consolidate it .
