Black Rock Dam is one of many remnants from the timber industry still found throughout the Waitakere Ranges. Huge timber beams across the Piha Stream are still firmly in place and boulders and stones have built up forming a pool above the dam.
This cache can be accessed from Anawhata Rd, or Glen Esk Rd. The recommended access point, for the most interesting walk, is from Anawhata Rd by following the Centennial Track.
The cache - a large sistema container in a black plastic bag - is located near to the dam, on the North bank of the stream. Please ensure it is firmly wedged in place when you leave.
