EUGENE FRANKLIN SKINNER 1809-1864

Hi there! My name is Eugene Skinner. Though I'm originally from Essex, New York, I came to settle in this area back in June of 1846. I helped found this town, originally called Eugene City, in 1853. Later the city was incorporated in 1862 and just called Eugene. This hill and spot was a favorite of mine to come up here and sit and see the town in it's earliest stages. It's nice to see they named this butte for me. I still visit this location and enjoy the great views and see what the next generations have done. Some of the things I see are very sad....but mostly I'm proud of how this area has grown. It all started from a small cabin I built, not far from here. I hope people will always remember the beginnings as I enjoy to see the future unfold before my very eyes as I sit here and admire. I have hidden a cache here for you to find. After you have found it....sit back relax and try to picture what Eugene City was like back when my neighbors and I started it.

***UPDATE 2/21/15 - NO LONGER A BISON TUBE. SMALL CAMOED SPECIMEN CONTAINER***
