LAKE
SALZBURG
with the residual lake of the Salzburg and bavarian Lake
Districts. The first dam break occurred at OichtenValley and later
at Oberndorf.
The north-south trending Salzburg Basin is situated within a
fault zone. During the formation the cantral area underwent
subsidence and the boundaries of the basin slipped down in a
step-like from. The Salzach glaciers of the ice ages gouged out
this shattered fracture zone down to 200m below the present valley
bottom
