Geocache Description:

We have placed this cache at a viewpoint near two impressive sculptures, on Tegu mountain which commands spectacular views of the North of the island.
Parking is available on either side of the road. I hope it is clear weather for you when you visit this and the other nearby caches.
These two new sculptures in bronze were unveiled on Canary day in June, 2008.

The cache is NOT in the stone wall, so please do NOT look in it, thank you.

The sculptures are dedicated to Ayose and Guise who were two Mahorero warlords. These kings ruled the two territories created by the low wall which spanned the narrowest width of the island, from La Pared (which means wall in Spanish) over to the east coast. This wall divided the island into two kingdoms. The North, Maxorata was ruled by Guise and Jandia in the South, by Ayose. Although ostensibly ruled by these two kings, they in turn took advice and guidance from a mother and daughter team of two priestesses, Tibiabin and Tamonante. In the early fifteenth century they fought the Norman conquerors led by Jean de Bethencourt.
The battle took place on the border between the territories of Guise and Ayose.

The sculptures, the work of Emiliano Hernández, are 4.5 metres high and around 1.5 metres wide and are sited beside the FV-30 north of Betancuria.
Betancuria this former capital of the island was named after its founder, Jean de Bethancourt in 1405. It has two museums and the main industry are agriculture and tourism. The island's capital moved to Antigua in 1834 before moving to the present capital of Puerto del Rosario.
