Das Eggegebirge besteht im Kern aus einem schmalen, überwiegend aus Unterkreide-Sandsteinen wie Neokom und Gault aufgebauten Bergrücken. Die westlich vorgelagerte Hügellandschaft ist durch Pläner-, die östliche durch Muschelkalk geprägt. Das Eggegebirge ist heute fast vollständig bewaldet. In den vorgelagerten Gebieten finden sich naturnahe Buchenwälder. Der Kamm ist vielfach mit der Fichte aufgeforstet worden. Die Entwicklung hin zu natürlichen Buchen-Eichen-Wäldern, ist im letzten Jahrzehnt durch waldbauliche Maßnahmen eingeleitet worden. Die beiden Gipfel des Velmerstot waren über Jahrhunderte durch großflächige Bergheiden geprägt, die durch Beweidung der Flächen entstanden und erhalten wurden. Auf dem Lippischen Velmerstot ist diese Landschaftsform erhalten geblieben die überwiegend aus Besenheide, Heidelbeeren und vereinzelten Birken und Kiefern besteht.
Der Preußische Velmerstot (N51°50,010 E8°57,247) ist mit einer Höhe von 468m der höchste Berg des Eggegebirges. Das Forstamt Paderborn errichtete hier im Jahre 2003 den siebzehn Meter hohen Eggeturm mit einer Aussichtsplattform auf neun Meter Höhe.
Der Lippische Velmerstot (N51°50,355 E8°57,342) hat eine Höhe von 441m. Auf seinem Gipfel liegen zahlreiche Sandsteinquader frei. Dort befindet sich ein 1,60 m hoher Obelisk aus Sandstein.
Zum loggen dieses Caches sind zwei Aufgaben zu erfüllen:
1.) Fügt dem Log zwei Bilder von euch bei.
a) am Obelisken
b) am Gipfelstein mit Blick auf den Aussichtsturm
2.) beantwortet die folgenden Fragen per E-Mail, nicht im Logtext:
a) Wie groß ist die Entfernung vom Gipfel des lippischen Velmerstot zum nahegelegenen Steinbruch "Silberort", wo der Sandstein abgebaut wurde, der zum Beispiel für das Berliner Reichstagsgebäude verwendet wurde?
b) Wie lautet die Inschrift auf dem Obelisk?
Ihr müsst nicht auf die Logerlaubnis zu warten. Unvollständig gelöste Aufgaben können aber zur Löschung führen.

The Velmertot lies at the border of the Egge-Mountain and the Teutoburger Wald.
The Teutoburger Wald is a fold mountain, created by two tectonic plates that hit each other. The mountain was folded up over millions of years by the pressure that developed after the impact of the plates.
The ridge of the Egge Mountain exist in the core of a narrow, predominantly of sandstones such as Neokom and Gault. The western hill landscape shaped by Pläner, the eastern by shelly limestone. The Egge is nearly completely wooded today. In the pre-aged areas beech forests are nature near. The comb was often reforested with the spruce. The development to natural beech oak forests, was introduced in the last decade by forest-structural measures. The two summits of the Velmerstot were shaped over centuries by wide mountain heaths. On the ‘Lippische Velmerstot’ this landscape form is preserved. On this northern summit rise up fissured sandstone rock out of the ground.
The Prussian Velmerstot (N51°50.010 E8°57.247) with a height of 468m is the highest mountain of the Egge Mountains. In the year 2003 the Forestry Commission Paderborn established here the seventeen meters high Egge-Tower with a prospect platform on nine meters height.
The Lippische Velmerstot (N51°50.355 E8°57.342) has a height of 441m. On its summit numerous sandstone rocks lie exposed. There is a 1.60 m high obelisk made of sandstone.
