1923. gada 30. decembri tika atklats kinoteatris “Splendid Palace”,
ko šobrid vairak pazist ka kino “Riga”. Tas bija pirmais
kinoteatris Baltijas valstis, kur saka demonstret skanu
filmas.
Kinoteatra eka ir valsts nozimes arhitekturas piemineklis. Tolaik
pirma dzelzsbetona eka pilseta celta pec arhitekta F. Skujina
projekta. Namam ir bagatiga un grezna arhitektoniska apdare
stilizetas rokoko formas. Savukart interjeru rota R. Maura un
J.Legzdina skulpturalie veidojumi. Liela vertiba ir H.Grinberga
gleznojumi, no kuriem ipaši izcelams Lielas zales
griestugleznojums.

December 30th, 1923 – cinema „Splendid Palace” opens. Now this
cinema is known by the name of cinema „Riga”. This was the first
cinema in Baltic states which began to screen sound films.
Cinema building is national architectural monument. The first steel
reinforced concrete building in the city at its time was designed
by architect Fridrihs Skujins. It is rich in magnificent
decoration, stylized in rococo shapes. The interior is decorated
with sculptural patterns by Rihards Maurs and J.Legzdins. Of great
value are the interior paintings of Hermanis Grinbergs, especially
Large Hall plafond.
