Geocache Description:

Roku 1591 koupil Stochov Jaroslav Borita z Martinic a v martinickém majetku (panství Smecno) zustala obec až do roku 1848.

There is no cache at the starting coordinates. This easy cache will show you St Wenceslas' Oak in Stochov, one of the oldest trees in the Czech Republic. The Chronicle of Bohemia by Vaclav Hajek (1541) mentions Stochov Castle as of 870 among seats of (legendary) Duke Neklan but this claim lacks any historical support (the author was notorious for his often self invented stories and fabricated dates). Another legend states that Wenceslas, later ruler and patron saint of Bohemia, was born to Duchess Drahomira just here in 903 and on that day his grandmother Duchess Ludmilla (nowadays known as St Ludmilla) planted an oak to commemorate the birth of future successor (in fact there is no evidence regarding exact date and location of Wenceslas' birth). May its origin be uncertain the small Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur) neverthless grew up in a huge tree, withstood centuries and still stands in historical centre of Stochov. The oak came in danger several times during ages but people always took care of its survival. Its trunk which has a circumference of 873 cm was tightened with iron rings, also the hollow obtained proper treatment. The height of the tree is 14,5 m and its estimated age between 700 and 1000 years. There is a statue of St Wenceslas in front of the oak. Undisputed first written mention of Stochov dates from year ABCD although archeological evidence confirms that the territory of the present town was settled already in Celtic times (second half of 1st millenium BC). For most of its known history Stochov was a small village which often passed from one feudal owner onto another. In 1591 it was bought by Jaroslav Borita of Martinice a wealthy nobleman who resided at Smecno Castle. The village remained in possession of his family (Counts of Martinitz, later Clam-Martinitz) until abolition of feudalism in 1848. When there arose a need for accomodation of miners of nearby Tuchlovice Colliery a new settlement was established west of the village. The number of inhabitants soared to its maximum 6,500 at turn of 1970s and the village obtained town status in year EFGH. Today Stochov has about 5,500 inhabitants and consists of four parts - Stochov, Slovanka, Honice and Celechovice. The cache is hidden in sight of the St Wenceslas' Oak. You need to find out three years in order to obtain the final coordinates. Two of these dates were left out from the text above (just ask Uncle Google or Aunt Wiki for them).

Stage 1

At N50° 08.951 E13° 57.776 there is the St Wenceslas' Oak with statue of that patron saint in front of it. Look carefully at the pedestal of the statue. The engraved year of its erection gives the third number IJKL.
