Geocache Description:

You are looking for a 35mm film canister, close to the parish church of St. Leonard, Lexden, Colchester. Please bring a pen!

PLEASE BE CAREFUL ON THE PAVEMENTS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, THEY CAN BE VERY ICY!

The church of St. Leonard is central to the old village of Lexden, near Colchester. It is built on the site of a previous, medieval church, in the Gothic style, and was consecrated in 1821. Some of the original church survives in the form of a memorial by the south door and a 14th century bell.

When the village of Lexden started to become more popular during the 19th century, the new church became part of the transition of Lexden from small village to fashionable suburb of Colchester.

A grand chancel was built in 1893 to replace a smaller one that was not quite to the Victorian sense of grandeur. Along with this, the Lady Chapel and organ chamber were also built at this date, but very work has been done to the building until very recently. A large new extension to the church has just been completed, providing more facilities for church regulars.

Please be carefull of the road, it can be quite busy. Also be aware of muggles as there can be a fair few around visiting the nature reserve.

Please replace the cache in the same place.
