Caching and Camping--North Dakota Style

June 12th - 14th, 2009

 

Load up your GPS and camping gear, invite your friends and family to join us for the first ever North Dakota State Wide Geocaching Event at Fort Stevenson State Park.  Located 3 miles south of Garrison on 41st Ave NW.  Come for the day or camp for the weekend.  This will be an event you don't want to miss.

Set up your campsite Friday night then come join us at the amphitheater for a presentation on Geocaching 101.  Sat will be filled with fun presentations, games for all ages, and finding easy to challenging caches.  Join us Sat night for a potluck supper.  Grills will be available, please bring your own meat and a dish to pass.  Plates, silverware, and napkins will be provided.

Reservations for group or individual sites can be made starting March 17th, 2009 by calling 1-800-807-4723 or by logging onto   https://secure.apps.state.nd.us/pnr/sp/services/public/reserve/mapview.htm?park=11   

Park fees are as follows:

Entrance fee-- $5/day per vehicle or $25 annual vehicle permit

Camping-- $15/night campsite with electricity; $20/night campsite with electricity and sewer hookups; $10/night campsite without electricity.

Camping cabins--$40/Night

Pets are most welcome.  Please keep them on a leash no longer then 6 feet, and please be sure to clean up after them and dispose of the waste properly.

Join the contest for the most unique homemade cammo cache container!!

Bring your most unique homemade cammo'd cache container to the event.  This cache container can be any size or shape, but it must be homemade.  You can cammo it to fit into any North Dakota surroundings, trees, grass, fields, lakes, rocks, urban or what ever else you can think of.  The caches will be set out on Sat night after the potluck.  Everyone will then vote on the cache they think has the most unique cammo.  The cache with the most votes wins a prize.

Friday June 12th, 2009

6:00 pm or earlier- The fun begins. Come on in and find your campsite and set up for the weekend

7:30 pm - Join us at the Amphitheater for a warm welcome and introduction to a fun filled weekend.

8:00 pm - Presentation on Geocaching 101

8:45 pm - Gather around the campfire, at campsite #136,(its pretty much directly behind the Amphitheater) for a night of geocaching chat

Saturday June 13th, 2009

*Separate TB and Coin tables will be set up all day for cachers to discover or trade*

 

8:00 am - Registration begins, Pick up your temporary cache pages, bingo cards, and any other info you may need.

9:00 am - Short announcements, explain how poker run caching works, answer any questions.

9:30 am - Start exploring the park.! The search begins for finding the caches. Please remember to CITO (Cache In Trash Out) as you cache in the park. There is a CITO container in the information bag you received, Please Use It! You have until 12:30 to help clean up the park and find caches, Have Fun! The person who collects the most trash while caching receives a prize!

12:30 pm- Lunch- This will be a bring your own affair. You can eat at the Amphitheater or you may go elsewhere as you see fit. * At this time Caching Bingo will be played*

1:15 pm - Clean up from lunch, gather back at the Amphitheater, turn in your bingo cards.

1:30 pm - Presentation on the different types of caches from the expected to the unique.(Bring your children to the kids table at this time so you can listen to the presentation and the kids can make there own geocaching bag.)

2:15 pm- Presentation on paperless caching using a palm pilot. (More fun stuff for the kids planned at this time also)

3:00 pm- Group Photo and then Prizes awarded.

3:45pm- Closing and clean up - Make additional announcements— Don’t forget the potluck at 6:00 pm it’s bring your own meat and a dish to share.

6:00 pm - Pot Luck - Eat till you can’t eat no more.

8:00 pm - Homemade cammo’d cache container contest, and more caching chat around the fire, at campsite #136, directly behind the Amphitheater.

10:00 pm - Night Cache for those who want to participate. After the night cache, Families are still welcome at Campsite #136 for a camp fire but after 10:00 pm adult beverages are welcome. Please remember no glass bottles in the park !

8:30 am - Interested in joining a formal ND geocaching organization? Come join us for some ideas on putting one together. If you aren’t from ND still come to join us we would love to hear your thoughts and ideas as well.

Event T-shirts will be for sale on a PRE-PAY/ PRE-ORDER basis only.  Sizes and prices are as follows:

Adult: Small to XL $12.00 ea.  2XL and 3XL are $14.00 ea.

Childrens: Small (6- 8) Medium (10-12) Large (14-16) XL (16-18) 12.00 ea.

If interested in purchasing a T-Shirt send an email to hljorstad@aol.com with the number of shirts and sizes you need.  We will respond as soon as possible to verify your order.  You will recieve your shirt(s) on Friday June 12 at the event. 

ALL SHIRTS MUST BE ORDERED BY SATURDAY MAY 23.

We are also looking for volunteers to help out with this event. This includes setting up for the day, picking up the temporary caches at the end of the event, registration table, and helping new cachers on the trails.  Anyone interested please contact us.
