Vecteevs Traditional Geocache

[EN] The cache is located in renovated national partisan (known also as “forest brothers”) dugout approx. 5km from Vietalva village. Currently place is in quite bad condition because dug's roof collapsed after heavy snowing in 2010, but local enthusiasts are planning to renovate it in future.
Cache itself is a small, plastic container containing logbook, pencil, pencil-sharpener and a postcard from New Riga Theatre play called “Vectevs”.

The Forest Brothers (also: Brothers of the Forest,Forest Brethren; Forest Brotherhood; Estonian:metsavennad,Latvian: meža brali, Lithuanian: miško broliai) were Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian partisans who waged guerrilla warfare against Soviet rule during the Soviet invasion and occupation of the three Baltic states during, and after, World War II.Similar anti-Soviet resistance groups fought against Soviet rule in Poland, Romania and western Ukraine. In the surroundings of Vietalva active hostilities were going on during World War II, and the events concerning the war after its termination also occurred there. A memorial site of the national partisans is situated in the Veseta flood plan mire nature reserve. In the years after the WWII so called “Parupa group” acted there, led by Rihards Parups. The names of the persons killed due to the betrayal in summer 1946 are written on the white cross opposite to the entrance of the dugout. It is possible to reach the cache using the forest roads and trails from W/NW/N side. The road quality depends very much on weather and season. During the winter some forest roads can not be accessible by car. Please be careful and check the road conditions before you decide to use them! In winter it is possible to use cross-country ski track which is nearby, then you should start your trip from Mailes ski center. According to cache logs from the end of 2010 access is also available using boardwalk which crosses the mire and allows to reach cache location from E side.

As this is the nature reserve you are not allowed step-off the trail and cross mire off-track from E side!
In the territory of the nature reserve, please, take into consideration:
- Do not pick plants! It takes many years for the gorgeous mire orchids to blossom from the small seeds!
- Do not step off the trail on the mire – the transition mire and spring fen vegetation are very sensitive habitats, do not trample them!
- Do not make a fire!
- Take care of the beaver dwellings – the beavers are the best regulators of the hydrological conditions in the nature!

The name and location of the cache are inspired by New Riga Theater play called “Vectevs”. This is one-actor (Vilis Daudzins) play about three real soldiers experience during World War II. Stories are different - one of them joined Latvian Legion (formation of Waffen-SS), the other - Red Army and the third managed to be on the both sides. Currently there are still many people living in Latvia who probably were fighting against each other during WW II. Even same family members.

Otra pasaules kara laikaa Vietalvas apkartne risinajas aktiva kara darbiba, un ar to saistiti notikumi ari pec kara beigam. Vesetas palienes purva dabas lieguma teritorija atrodas nacionalo partizanu pieminas vieta – restaureta zemnica un krusts. Peckara gados te darbojas ta saucama Parupa grupa, kuras vaditajs bija Rihards Parups. 1946. gada nodevibas del bojagajušo uzvardi lasami uz balta krusta iepretim ieejai zemnica.

Slepnim iespejams pieklut no Z/ZR/R puses izmantojot esošo taku un celu tiklu. Celu stavoklis liela mera atkarigs no laika apstakliem un gadalaika. Ziemas laika meža celi var nebut viegli izbraucami - apstaklus izvertejiet paši pec situacijas un izmantojama transporta lidzekla. Aktivas atputas cienitajiem ziema iesaku slepot no slepošanas bazes Mailes (slepošanas trašu shema atrodas stadiona galaa). Ziemaa distancu slepošanas baze Mailes piedava vienu no skarbakajam distancu slepošanas trasem Latvija, vasaraa celi un takas ir piemerotas velo izbraucieniem. No slepnotaju log-iem var spriest, ka 2010.g. beigas tika paibeigta purva laipa, kura atlauj sasniegt slepni ari no DA/A puses.

- Saudze bebru mitnes – bebri ir labakie mitruma apstaklu regulatori daba.

Slepna ideja un nosaukums aiznemts no 2009.gada JRT lugas“Vectevs”. Izrade veidota Alvja Hermana skatuves stastu tehnikaa — tris realu cilveku dzivesstasti izstastiti tris stundu gara iestudejuma. Vilis Daudzinš ilgstoši vacis dokumentus un stastijumus, lai raditu dramaturgisko materialu, kas stasta par padomju vai legiona puse karojot piedzivoto. Viedokli, ka dzive, ir pretrunigi un politnekorekti, padarot izradi unikalu Latvijas teatra dzive, jo lauj pašam skatitajam izlemt, ko domat, kam ticet.
