Geocache Description:

Short walk from the road - but don’t be expecting to get a pint [;)]!!

Just over the stream from the parking near a finger post lie the ruins of the notorious Slymefoot Pub, where it is reputed that whisky smugglers and local farmers alike gathered for a spot of relaxation, drinking and gambling – stood inside the ruins if you listen carefully you can almost hear the buzz of conversation and I’ll swear we thought we heard music as well – overactive imaginations I guess, but the place is heavy with atmosphere so we can’t really be blamed.

The start of The Street, an ancient drove road into Scotland, is also just over the stream and in days gone by cattle would be brought down this track from the Highland to be sold in English markets. Sheep have been grazed in the bleak windswept hills of the Cheviots for over 600 years and is one of the most important sheep breeding areas in the country – main breeds white faced Cheviot sheep and Scottish Blackface – now that’s just saved you reading the information board!! We couldn’t find out much else about the pub so if you’d like to add any information it would be interesting to hear.
