The Event...
If a reason is needed to hold another
event in London, then I suppose the fact that my birthday is on the
preceding day (18th March) will be good enough. I won't be placing
any new caches as there have already been a few new ones placed in
the area since the last event, however I suspect that the majority
of you that attend will have already done most, if not all of the
113 caches that are currently active within 2 miles of the pub.
So... there will be nothing to distract you from the simple
pleasures of eating good food, drinking fine ale and mixing with a
great bunch of folk to chat about Geocaching.... or anything else
that takes your fancy. Those of you that have been to one of the
previous events here will know that the craic was mighty. If it
turns out to be only half as good as the three events that have
preceded it, then it'll be an evening to remember.
The Venue...
The venue for this event is a pub very
close to Smithfield Meat Market. Aptly named "The Butcher's Hook
& Cleaver", it's one of a chain of 'Ale & Pie' pubs owned
by the Fullers Brewery and as such, a full range of their fine ales
will be available. There's also a goodly selection of 'girly'
drinks and if you really must... lager. Food will also be available
from the bar until mid-evening.
The pub will probably be a bit busy early on as it's a popular
place for local workers to stop off for a swift one (or two) before
going home so you may have to fight your way to the bar. The staff,
however, are used to crowds so you'll never have to wait for too
long.
An area on the ground floor has been
reserved for us and will be available from 18:00 onwards on
Thursday, 19th March, 2009. It's 'wheelchair friendly' with
a loo on the ground floor. The previous London events have been
well attended and good fun so come and enjoy the social side of
Geocaching, particularly if you've never been to an event before.
Everyone is welcome.
Transport....
The nearest tube station is Barbican but
Farringdon, St Paul's, Moorgate and Chancery Lane are only a short
walk away. City Thameslink is also close by. If you choose to come
by car, there is an expensive underground carpark opposite the pub
(sorry, don't know if it's open 24/7) and, if you can find a space,
parking is permitted in some of the nearby roads.
Travel bugs and Geocoins....
I cannot be responsible for travel bugs
or coins left either physically or virtually at the event. You're
more than welcome to 'virtually' drop bugs and coins prior to the
event taking place but please don't just dump them onto a
table when you arrive and forget about them. So many get left on
cache pages after events and physically disappear into some travel
bug black hole. If you can, make a note of who takes 'yours' and
hopefully, all will subsequently go on to new caches.
