Styrcza is the biggest village in Moldavia. Its history begins in
late XIX century when Poles from Chocim and Kamieniec Podolski,
tempted with low taxes and a discharge from service in tsarist
army, arrived in Moldavia.
Baserabia (now Moldavia) was then sparsely populated.
Tsar of Russia wanted to have these lands colonized that's why he
promised the discharge from long-term serivce in his army.
Many Polish families came to Baserabia.
After the World War II, Soviet Union authorities tried to eradicate
Polish culture, placing a ban on religious and national
practices.
People were deprived of their lands and some of them were deported
to Siberia.
There were, however, many Poles who tried to maintain their Polish
ethnic identity and taught their children the Polish language
from prayer books.
Nowadays they can freely go to Catholic Church, but they wish there
was a Polish, not a Romanian priest in a parish.
There is an ethnographic museum in Strycza.
The container is hidden on the premises of The Polish House but
there won't be any problems with gaining a permission to search for
it
.
Mrs Aniela keeps an eye on the geocache. She also takes care of the
House so you sholud inform her if You want to search on the
premises.
The geocache is hidden in the surroundings of the House.
