Geocache Description:

A "Roadside Memorial Cache" by gsmX2. This series of caches brings life to the Highway Memorials that we see on the roads around Ojai. The intent is to give you information about the people who they honor. The cache will NOT be closer than 10 feet from the memorial, so please do not disturb the memorial in any way. The information is gathered from newspaper articles, obituaries or other accounts. I hope you enjoy these caches.

This Roadside Memorial is on a guardrail on the west side of the road. It consists of a cross with name Dr. Jack Dunn, the date of his death, and the words, “Bad to the Bone.” At the time the cache was set, sayings were written on the guard rail as a tribute to Dr. Dunn.

Dr. Jack Dunn was an experienced and skilled motorcycle rider, who perished in a solo accident on a beautiful day on May 18, 2008. Eyewitness and CHP reports state that he swerved off the road, hit a guardrail, and then hit a pothole on the side of the road. He was thrown from his Harley, over the guard rail and down a 50 foot cliff. Although he was wearing a helmet, he suffered major head injuries.

Dr. Dunn ran a successful chiropractic clinic in Santa Paula until he was introduced to the practice of Alphabiotics, a field of alternative medicine that aims to reduce stress through subtle physical manipulations of the body. He attended more than 90 clinics on the practice, more than any other person. He was a devoted husband and father of two girls.

He believed that "laughter is the best medicine" and regularly issued out laughter in large doses. Said one friend in the Ventura Star Message Board, "He was such a character. A perfect blend of fun, friendship, sarcasm, sensitivity, rebellion, wit and warmth. Jack was a great listener and gifted healer. His passion and commitment to family, friends, alphabiotics, alternative health, politics, Harleys, Elvis and life was unsurpassed. We will miss our dear friend. In his honor, we must move forward and live life to the fullest because that is what he would want us to do. Jack's spirit is with us always."
