VULCANISMO EN EL CAMPO DE
CALATRAVA
siguientes:
-
¿Que tipo de
escorias forman el volcán del Cerro Santo?
-
¿Qué tipo de rocas
componen este volcán?
-
¿En qué año fue
declarado el volcán como Monumento Natural?

CERRO SANTO´S VOLCANO IN PORZUNA (CIUDAD
REAL)
CAMPO DE CALATRAVA´S
VULCANISM
Volcanic
activity of this zone is one of the characteristics that define the
landscape of the central part of Ciudad Real province. The
volcanoes are extended by an ample territory of more than 5,000
km2. The most recent investigations establish a number of volcanic
buildings, superior to 300, without telling to the small outcrops
and the rest of tertiary craters generated in hidromagmatics
eruptions.
Campo de
Calatrava´s vulcanism is associate to the existence of positive a
thermal anomaly in the Mantle, which has caused a swelling up and a
later streching and thinning of the crust. One also takes place an
opening or reactivation of fractures of direction NW-SE and
transversals of them, on whom the eruptives events have taken
place. In Campo de Calatrava´s central zone, the thickness of the
crust is smaller. It is here where the volcanic activity is
concentrated massively and for that reason where the eruptives
typologies and the resulting forms of relief also more are
varied.
CERRO SANTO´S VOLCANO
(PORZUNA)
In flanks of the great one sinclinal folds
that from Malagón extends to Navas de Estena, are located the last
eruptives processes of the north of the volcanic region. In their
Eastern sector the eruptions of phreatic character with the
development of great explosive depressions like which they lodge to
the temporary Las Nava´s lagoons, in the environs of Malagón
predominate. Towards the west the eruptions acquire a arched
magmatic character. It emphasizes the one that gave rise to the
Hill volcano Santo.
Cerro Santo´s volcano is located in the North
edge of the volcanic region and constitutes the last northern
eruptives manifestations. These effusive phases alternate with
others in which piroclastos are emitted that cover the taps and
finish forming it. This is an interesting volcano formed by
pyroclasts of fall and lavics spill. In their high part the edges
of craterics arcs can be observed both still that crown it. The
best access to the volcano becomes by the way that takes to
Cristo´s hermitage, located in its top. This way is taken from the
highway that unites Porzuna with Las Casas del Río district.
It was declared Natural Monument by Decree
21/2001 of 27 of February, counts on a surface of 84 hectares. One
is made up of an only monogenic, consisting of building a center of
emission extended of direction N-S, that has emitted lava taps in
several directions, preferredly towards the W. The geomorfológic
particularity of this volcano consists of its average degree of
erosion, being constituted by black and reddish dregs.
CACHE
In order to register this finding, simply
it is necessary to promote to the top of this volcano and to make a
photography to you or to your GPS in some significant point of the
place (next to some volcanic rocks which they abound by the zone,
with the surrounding mountain ranges like bottom, or simply within
the framework of the spectacular landscape that is observed from
this natural monument). Also it is necessary to respond the
following questions:
-
What type of dregs
forms Cerro Santo's volcano?
-
What type of rocks
composes this volcano?
-
In what year the
volcano like Natural Monument was declared?
