Nicht nur in Texas oder dem Mittleren Osten kann man das "Schwarze
Gold" im Erdboden finden: Sogar nordwestlich von Kiel hat man ein
kleineres Erdölfeld aufspüren können, das mittlweile allerdings
schon komplett ausgebeutet ist.
An den angegebenen Koordinaten befindest du dich neben einer
Pferdekopfpumpe, die benutzt wurde, um das etwa 1.500 Meter
tief liegende Erdöl aus dem Ölfeld "Schwedeneck" ans Tageslicht zu
befördern. Das Öl enthaltende Speichergestein heißt Dogger
beta. Es wird von jüngeren tonigen Sedimentschichten überdeckt,
welche die Entwicklung einer so genannten Ölfalle
ermöglichten, in die Erdöl aus dem Muttergestein hineinwandern und
sich dort anlagern konnte. In diesem Kontext sprechen Geologen von
einer Transgressionslagerstätte.
Von 1956 bis 1991 wurden im Schwedeneck-Feld insgesamt ca. 0,76
Millionen Tonnen Erdöl gefördert. Das Ölfeld setzt sich unter
der Ostsee fort und wird dort Schwedeneck-See genannt. Zwischen
1984 und 2000 wurden zwei Ölbohrplattformen eingesetzt, um
zusätzlich ca. 3,5 Millionen Tonnen Erdöl aus diesem zweiten
Feld herauszupumpen.
Neben der Pferdekopfpumpe wirst du zwei Infotafeln
finden: Die kleinere direkt am Zaun um die Pumpe herum zeigt
schematisch den Weg des Erdöls von der Lagerstätte bis zum
Endverbraucher. Die größere (frei stehende) enthält detaillierte
Informationen über die Entstehung und Herkunft des Erdöls
einerseits und über die Funktionsweise der Pferdekopfpumpe
andererseits. Sieh dir die zweite Infotafel genauer an und
beantworte die folgenden Fragen:
1. Wie nennt man die Aufwärtsbewegung des Öls durch Risse und
durchlässige Gesteine? Der gesuchte Ausdruck sei x.
2. Wie hoch ist die Porösität des Dogger-beta-Sandsteins? Die
Lösung sei y %.
3. Die Antriebseinheit der Pferdekopfpumpe besteht aus dem
Antriebsmotor und einem zweiten Teil. Wie wird dieser fehlende Teil
genannt? Der gesuchte Ausdruck sei z.
Wenn du diese drei Fragen beantwortet hast, solltest du vor Ort
noch eine obligatorische Aufgabe erfüllen:
4. Mach ein Foto von dir und deinem GPS-Gerät mit der
Pferdekopfpumpe im Hintergrund.
Wieder zuhause gibt es zwei weitere Dinge zu tun:
5. Schreib eine Email an die Adresse xyz@googlemail.com (wobei du
x, y und z natürlich durch die zugehörigen Antworten auf die drei
obigen Fragen ersetzen solltest). Setze nichts zwischen die
korrekten Antworten x, y und z – dann solltest du eine automatische
Antwort bekommen, wenn deine x, y und z richtig waren. Sollten

6. Die beiden Ölfelder Schwedeneck und Schwedeneck-See sind schon
komplett ausgeschöpft. Wir alle sollten uns ganz generell darüber
im Klaren sein, dass Erdöl ein sehr begrenzter und deswegen
wertvoller Rohstoff ist. Schlag den aktuellen US-Dollar-Preis für
ein Barrel Brent-Öl nach! Du kannst dazu z.B.

Wenn du eine positive Antwortmail erhalten und den aktuellen
Ölpreis herausgefunden hast, kannst du diesen Earthcache als
gefunden loggen. Vergiss natürlich nicht, den Ölpreis mit in dein
Log zu schreiben und das Foto von dir vor der Pferdekopfpumpe

Black Gold: The oil field Schwedeneck
It is not only Texas or the Middle East where you can find the
"black gold" in the ground: Even north-west of Kiel a minor oil
field has once been detected and meanwhile already exploited.
At the given coordinates you will find yourself standing next to a
horsehead pump, which was used to unearth the oil lying
roughly 1500 metres deep in a field named "Schwedeneck". The oil
containing reservoir rock is called dogger beta. It is
covered by younger clayey sediment layers that allowed the
development of a so-called oil trap, where oil from the bedrock
could walk into and accumulate there. In this context geologists
talk of a transgression field.
The oil production in the Schwedeneck-field went from 1956 till
1991, gaining ca. 0,76 million tons of oil on the whole.
This oil field continues under the Baltic and is there called
Schwedeneck-Sea. From 1984 till 2000 two offshore platforms were
used to additionally pump up ca. 3,5 million tons of oil
from that second field.
Next to the horsehead pump you will find two info boards: The
smaller one on the fence around the pump just gives you a rough
diagram showing the oil's way from its extraction site to the
consumer. The bigger (free-standing) one provides you with detailed
information about the oil's genesis and origin in the earth layers
on the one hand and about the functionality of the horsehead pump
on the other hand. Look closely at that second info board and
answer the following questions:
1. How do you call the oil's upward motion through clefts and
permeable rocks? Let this expression be x. (x is the same in
English as in German.)
2. What is the porosity percentage of the dogger beta sandstone?
Let this number be y.
3. The horsehead pump's drive unit consists of the driving motor
("Antriebsmotor" in German) and a second part. How do you call that
missing part in German? Let z be the expression looked for.
Having answered these three questions you will have to fulfil
one last on-site task:
4. Take a picture of you and your gps-device with the horsehead
pump in the background behind you.
Being back home there are now two more things to do:
5. Write an email to the address xyz@googlemail.com (substituting
x, y and z by the corresponding answers from the three questions
above, of course). Do not put anything between the correct answers
x, y and z and you should receive an automatic response if your x,

already. Thinking more generally, we all should be well aware of
the fact that oil is a very limited and therefore precious
resource. Look up the current price in US dollars for one barrel of
