Geocache Description:

This cache is part of an extension to Sadexploration's immensely far–reaching Church Micro series. Hopefully, it will attain the high standard already set by others.

St.Mary’s

The site upon which this Church is built is said to be that of a Romano British Chapel. Certainly a house of worship has stood here for at least 600 years, as historical records begin in 1342, when the site came into possession of the Priory of Takeley in Essex. It is described in the annals of the Priory as a Rectory of that monastery. Before that time it is possible that a crude wooden structure existed, or divine service may have been held under the ancient yew tree that stood in the Churchyard until 1829. This venerable tree, which was reputed to be over 1,000 years old, was, most regrettably, cut down when the old Hampton Church was demolished in that year. The present Church was built in 1830-31 and was consecrated on 1st September, 1831, by the Bishop of London (Dr Charles James Blomfield).

The waypoint below will take you near to the family grave of Hugh Campbell and his two children Eleanour and Alfred. Here you will need to find the following info:

Hugh died 187A
Eleanour was born 187B
Alfred was born C87D

Cache located at N51 24. ( A ) ( B ) ( C + D ) W000 21. ( D + D) ( C ) ( C + D )

The cache is not hidden in the church grounds but approx 350m away in a small park on the banks of the river thames, please keep any children under close supervision.
Please use the nearby Pedestrian Crossing to reach the other side of the road.
Unfortunately you cannot walk all the way along the riverbank to reach GZ so why not visit Garrick’s Temple to Shakespeare on your way to the cache, an interesting diversion, more info can be found here GARRICKS TEMPLE. The Temple itself is only open on Sundays between April and September but the grounds are open dawn til dusk all year round.

The cache has a log book but no writing implement, make sure you bring your own.

Due to the very public location of this cache, please use extreme stealth and care when retrieving and replace exactly as found making sure it cannot be seen by muggles.

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let SADEXPLORATION know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
