Vous trouverez cette cache sur une colline surplombant Valentine, au Sud de Saint-Gaudens. L’origine de ce sanctuaire est sujette à de multiples explications : apparition de Marie à un jeune berger, reconnaissance d’une mère dont l’enfant fut miraculeusement sauvé d’une noyage dans la Garonne, vœu des Valentinois décimés par une épidémie de peste etc … Ce qui était primitivement un simple oratoire devint une petite chapelle au 17ème siècle. Elle faisait l’objet de pèlerinages tous les premiers dimanches du mois de mai. Détruite en 1794, elle fut reconstruite par les habitants à partir de 1818 et dédiée à Notre Dame de Pitié. Ce sanctuaire, destination d’un chemin de croix qui serpente sur la colline, fut très fréquenté au 19ème siècle. C’est à la fin de ce siècle que fut édifiée la chapelle actuelle. Beaucoup de Commingeois aiment s’y rendre en pèlerinage individuel ou collectif, et on y rencontre de nombreux groupes, venus là pour un pique nique en famille ou pour un mariage ! Pour l’anecdote, les moniteurs d’auto-écoles affectionnent également l’endroit… Vous comprendrez aisément pourquoi ! Conseils : révisez votre passage de 2nde en 1ère et vérifiez vos freins….. Regardez la photo de notre cache pour ne pas vous tromper ! ********************************************************************** You will find this cache on a hill overlooking Valentine, in the South of Saint-Gaudens. The origin of this sanctuary is a controversial issue: Mary’s apparition to a young shepherd, the gratefulness of a mother whose child was miraculously saved from drowning in the Garonne, a wish of the inhabitants of Valentine decimated by a plague epidemic etc… What was originally a simple oratory became a small chapel in the 17th century. People went there on a pilgrimage every first Sundays in May. Destroyed in 1794, it was rebuilt by the inhabitants from 1818 onwards and dedicated to Notre Dame de Pitié. This sanctuary, destination of a Way of the Cross that winds its way on the hill, was very busy in the 19th century. The chapel as it is now was built at the end of the 19th century. A lot of people from le Comminges enjoy going there individually or collectively, and you are likely to meet many groups coming there for a family picnic or for a wedding! As a matter of interest, driving instructors do love the place as well…. You will easily understand why! Advice: revise how to go from 2nd into 1st gear and check your brakes….. Happy Geocaching !
