Kuetfelsen Salzkotten
Der Kuetfelsen ist ein in ganz Westfalen einmaliges Naturdenkmal und gilt als geologisches Wahrzeichen von Salzkotten. Entstanden ist dieser uhrglasfoermige Huegel als Ausfaellung aus der kohlesaeurehaltigen Quelle Unitas. Die Quelle selbst hat also diesen ueber drei Meter hohen Felsen auf freier Ebene aufgebaut. Das Alter der untersten Schichten des Sinterfelsens wird auf über 15.000 Jahre geschaetzt. Im Untergrund von Salzkotten sind Ablagerungen des Eiszeitalters weit verbreitet. Vor über 200.000 Jahren bedeckte das nördliche Inlandeis das heutige Stadtgebiet. Es hinterließ eine Grundmoräne, die aus Sand, Schluff und Ton besteht, aber auch größere Geschiebe enthält. Entlang der Heder sind sogenannte Plänerschotter, die im wesentlichen aus Kalksteingeröllen bestehen, zu finden. Im ausgehenden Eiszeitalter, vor mehr als 10.000 Jahren, wurden die älteren Schichten von Windablagerungen, dem Löss und Sandlöss, bedeckt.

Um diesen Earth Cache zu loggen muesst ihr, wie bei allen Earth Caches, beweisen dass ihr auch tatsaechlich vor Ort ward und etwas ueber die Erdgeschichte gelernt habt.
Daher gelten folgende Logbedingungen:
1. Macht ein Foto von euch mit eurem GPS-Empfaenger an der Quelle oder am Huegel und stellt es mit eurem Log-Eintrag rein (bitte verlasst vor Ort nicht die Wege oder trammelt dieses Naturschauspiel kaputt!).
2 . Beantwortet die folgenden Fragen per e-mail:
- Wieviel Prozent betraegt der gemessene Salzgehalt der Quelle?
- Wieviele verschiedene Salzpflanzenarten haben sich im Bereich des Kuetfelsens angesiedelt?
Achtung: Bitte gebt keine Hinweise zu den Antworten in euren Logs! Logs ohne Foto oder korrekte Antworten werden geloescht!

The Kuetfelsen (Kuet-Hill)
The Kuetfelsen (Kuet-Hill) is a unique natural monument in Westphalia and is a geologic landmark of the town Salzkotten. This watch glass-shaped hill was formed as precipitation from the carbonic acid spring Unitas. So the spring itsself has formed this over 3 meter high hill! The lowest layer of this hill is more than 15,000 years old. In the subsoil of Salzkotten sediments of the ice age years are wide spread. More than 200,000 years ago the northern ice sheet covered the today's city. It left a ground moraine which exists of sand, silt and tone, but also contains bigger sediments. Along the river Heder stones called Plänerschotter (pebble marl) which exist basically of limestone can be found. At the outgoing ice age years, more than 10,000 years ago, the older layers were covered by wind sediments, the loess and sandy loess.

In order to log this Earth Cache you have to fulfill the following tasks:
1. Take a photo of you and your GPS receiver at the Earth Cache site and upload it within your log-entry (but do not step on the spring or leave the marked ways!).
2. Answer the following questions via e-mail:
- How many percent is the absolute salinity of the spring?
- How many different types of salty plants grow on the hill?
Attention: Please do not give hints to the questions in your logs! Logs without a photo and the correct answers to the questions will be deleted!
