Geocache Description:

(PT) Óis da Ribeira, freguesia situada no concelho de Águeda, distrito de Aveiro; agradável zona plana de passeio e lazer.
(EN) Óis da Ribeira, is a parish located in the county of Águeda, district of Aveiro; it’s a pleasant plan area for walks and leisure.

(PT) Óis da Ribeira, a mais pequena freguesia do concelho de Águeda (distrito de Aveiro) em termos territoriais, está situada entre a margem esquerda do rio Águeda e a Pateira. Apesar da sua área de 3,8 kms2, Óis da Ribeira já foi um dos mais importantes lugares da zona.

Datam do século XI documentos referentes à actual freguesia, como o de uma doação feita por D. Flâmula ao Mosteiro de Pedroso, onde se diz que metade de Eixo e Óis eram por dote de D. Tereza Fernandes, mulher do Conde D. Mem Viegas de Sousa.
Esta parte da vila foi doada em 13 de Setembro de 1289, por D. Leonor Afonso, filha ilegítima de D. Afonso III e viúva do conde D. Gonçalo Garcia de Sousa, à ordem de Malta, que depois a trocou com o conde de Barcelos e sua mulher D. Branca de Sousa, por diversas propriedades que estes possuíam na vila de Monsanto.
Consta-se também que em Julho de 1494, D. João II doou a Diogo de Sousa, vigésimo Senhor da Casa de Sousa, várias vilas, entre as quais se encontrava Óis, doação essa confirmada, em 1500, por D. Manuel que lhe atribuiu foral em 2 de Junho de 1516.

Nos dias de hoje, para além das dinâmicas actividades que se desenvolvem na freguesia, muitos amantes da natureza percorrem os caminhos de Óis, sendo a observação de aves uma das muitas actividades passíveis de serem realizadas no local.

Convida-se o geocacher a trazer os binóculos e a máquina fotográfica, roupa e calçado confortável e a desfrutar do maravilhoso local e dos belos pássaros que o habitam.

Recomenda-se que a cache seja feita de DIA
(o local não é, de todo, indicado para visitas nocturnas).
Ao fim de semana a pateira de Óis da Ribeira torna-se um local muito visitado por famílias e grupos de pessoas, pelo que se recomenda algum cuidado com a retirada e colocação da cache do esconderijo.

Por vezes, em época de CHUVAS FORTES, o local é afectado por cheias. Pode ser complicado ou mesmo impossível fazer a cache nos dias das cheias.

Cuidado com os muggles desportistas; os miúdos são muito curiosos!!!

(EN) Óis da Ribeira, the smallest parish, in territorial terms, of Águeda county in (Aveiro’s district), is located between the left shore of Rio Águeda and Pateira. Despite its area of 3,8 kms2, Óis da Ribeira was once one of the most important places in the area.

There are documents from the 11th century about the actual parish, such as one that refers a donation made by D. Flâmula to the monastery of Pedroso, where it is said that half of Eixo and Óis were given by dowry of D. Tereza Fernandes, wife of Count D. Mem Viegas de Sousa.
D. Leonor Afonso, illegitimate daughter of D. Afonso III, donated this part of the village in September 13, 1289 to the Order of Malta, which exchanged it with the Count of Barcelos and his wife D. Branca de Sousa, for several land properties they owned in the village of Monsanto.

It is said that in July 1494, D. João II donated to Diogo de Sousa, twentieth lord of the House of Sousa, several villages, including Óis; D. Manuel, which gave it a charter in July 2, 1516, confirmed this donation in 1500.

Nowadays, beside the dynamic activities that are developed in the parish, many nature lovers walk trough the paths of Óis, being the observation of birds one of the many activities that occur in the area.

We invite the geocacher to carry his binoculars and photographic machine, cosy shoes and clothes, and enjoy this wonderful place and the beautiful birds that inhabit there.

We truly recommend this cache to be done by daylight (the place isn’t indicated for night visits).
By the weekend, Óis da Ribeira becomes a very popular place, so we recommend you to be careful to unhide and hide again the cache in its hideout.

Sometimes, in hard winters, floods affect the place. It can be hard or even impossible to do the cache in that case.

Be careful with sportive muggles; the kids can be really curious!!
