SERRA DE CANELAS
A Serra de Canelas situa-se no concelho de Vila Nova de Gaia.
Está definida em PDM como área protegida e constitui-se como um
espaço natural, com a função (original) de proteger as terras
agrícolas dos ventos marítimos. Nas suas encostas, nascem pelo
menos 3 pequenos ribeiros, sendo o mais conhecido, o Ribeiro da
Costa ou Ribeira da Choça. Abundam fauna e flora interessantes. A
extracção de granito em pedreira, a deposição de entulhos e o abate
de árvores constituem-se como as principais ameaças deste espaço de
lazer e convívio. É uma zona muito importante pois é uma das
maiores áreas verdes do concelho. Um lugar com óptimos recursos,
como as suas pedreiras desactivadas e abandonadas e as lagoas que
se tratadas podiam ser um local de atracção turística. É importante
para Vila Nova de Gaia que esta serra seja preservada pois vivemos
numa zona muito povoada e com um grande número de carros e sendo a
renovação do ar indispensável à nossa existência temos que tratar
da serra. Neste momento a serra de Canelas é uma lixeira a céu
aberto,um local que apesar disso ainda atrai muitos praticantes de
desporto de natureza dado ter excelentes condições para isso, já là
vai o tempo das provas de BTT do campeonato nacional, com grandes
elogios dos atletas. Quanto ao espaço natural é um lugar que mesmo
assim degradado, ainda surpreende no que toca à fauna, ainda se
podem encontrar desde esquilos, doninhas, coelhos, raposas,
gaviões, águia asa redonda, coruja do mato, coruja das torres, pato
verde, pica pau malhado grande, garças-real(nas lagoas artificias)
etc.. Quanto à flora o carvalho ,o sobreiro seriam as espécies
dominantes dada a espontaneidade com que nascem,se não fosse a
verdadeira peste de eucaliptos que assola serra e as serras por
este pais. Outro aspecto interessante é a rede de minas de
agua,prezas,pequenos aquedutos etc..
