The Bay as its known to most people has seen a remarkable change over the Years..
Who can remember the old punts at the Bay and Nelligen? or the mad mile ? .
Who wanted to live at surfside ? Its just a swamp !
Life before the by pass
Malua Bay and Surfbeach had more farms than surburban houses..
And there was no traffic lights except for the ones on the bridge.
The Bay bridge today is the oldest of its type in Australia and is a well recognised landmark on the South Coast of New South Wales
The Yuin people were the first inhabitants of the area. A large population of family groups moved around this land. Most family groups averaged 10-20 people, with tribes numbering 1,500-3,000 people.
The Shire Council was formed in 1913 with the responsibility for administering local government functions along 110km of the NSW coast between Durras and Wallaga Lake.
