Le domaine de Vaugien est mentionné dès 1192. En 1495, Louis, Seigneur de Chevreuse, cède la terre et la seigneurie de Vaugien à Jean Chaudron. Vaugien semble avoir été le château seigneurial de Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse.
Amable, comte de Thellusson de Sorcy (1793-1843), qui adore recevoir ses nombreux amis pour des parties de chasse sur ses terres giboyeuses, trouve que l’ancien château est bien trop petit pour accueillir tout le monde. Il le fait raser et en 1829, il fait construire une belle demeure de style italien. Les jardins ont été dessinés par Le Nôtre. Une petite chapelle datant du XVIIIème siècle, construite sur les bords d’une ancienne douve, existe toujours.
Aujourd’hui, le château appartient à Marguerite de la Rochefoucault (seconde fille du comte Geoffroy de Montalembert), épouse du Comte Urbain de la Rochefoucault décédé en 1990.
In the records since 1192, it seems it has always housed the lord of Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse.
In 1495, Louis, Lord of Chevreuse, sells the land and lordship of Vaugien to Jean Chaudron.
Amable, earl of "Thellusson de Sorcy" (1793-1843), finding the old chateau too small to entertain large parties of hunters has it built down and replaced by a beautiful Italian style mansion in 1829.
The gardens were designed by Le Nôtre. A little chapel dating back to 18th century was built along the former moat and still stands there.
Nowadays, the chateau belongs to Marguerite de la Rochefoucault (second daughter to earl Geoffroy de Montalembert), widow of earl Urbain de la Rochefoucault who died in 1990.
