Geocache Description:

Come to Muriwai, find the cache and have a picnic on the beach. Muriwai is a beautiful beach that's so long there is plenty of space for everyone. Have a picnic, a BBQ or just kick a ball around.

Make sure you check the tides before coming this far up the beach, you'll be wanting to head off the beach no later than a couple of hours after low tide. Also be careful, and keep an eye on the young'ns, watching out for other vehicles on the beach. Swimming in this area is not advisable, although the area around the Rimmer Rd beach access point is popular with surfers when the wind and waves are just right.

Anywhere along the stretch of beach where the cache is located is great for picnics and fishing. Further north (past The Bombing Range) nearer the Kaipara harbour entrance, the beach widens and flattens out into a large area. On sunny days there can be quite a few visitors to this end of the beach, but while driving watch out for puddles as they can be deep - hitting them at speed could be bad. Always be careful driving on sand.

The cache is a round black screwtop container with a log book and a couple of small trade items. The container is tucked into a bush - please be gentle and don't destroy the bush when looking for it as that is totally unnecessary. Happy caching and picnicking!
