ESCADAS
Original cache description::
“ … after this cache you have done with stairs. The next days you use only lifts. I stopped counting at 1500, but I can assure you, there are more.
You will have a walk on the backbone of the island. You can also start at Achada da Teixeira (a place above Santana). In this case you can also log the caches “Pico Ruivo” and “Pico do Jorge”. Respect if you do so!
Take the ER 104/228 to the Encumeada Pass. There you can park your car. It’s also a busline available to the pass. More information you get out of the hiking guide of Sunflower Books (John and Pat Underwood) or the guide of Raimundo Quintal (Levadas and Footpaths on Madeira – available in several languages).
If the weather is similar to that when I did the walk, you will have breath taking views. But be aware you are walking on the top of the island and the weather can change very quickly. Anorak and mountain boots are a must. Take to eat and to drink with you (I needed 2 litres).

“… depois desta cache já acabaste com as escadas. Nos dias seguintes você usa apenas elevadores. Parei de contar em 1.500, mas posso garantir que há mais.
Você fará um passeio pela espinha dorsal da ilha. Também pode começar pela Achada da Teixeira (localidade acima de Santana). Neste caso poderá também registar as caches “Pico Ruivo” e “Pico do Jorge”. Tenha atenção, se você fizer isso!
Siga pela ER 104/228 até à Passagem da Encumeada. Lá você pode estacionar seu carro. Também é uma linha de ônibus disponível para o passe. Mais informações poderá obter no guia de caminhadas da Sunflower Books (John e Pat Underwood) ou no guia de Raimundo Quintal (Levadas e Veredas na Madeira – disponível em vários idiomas).
Se o tempo estiver semelhante ao de quando fiz a caminhada, você terá uma vista de tirar o fôlego. Mas esteja ciente de que você está caminhando no topo da ilha e o tempo pode mudar muito rapidamente. Anorak e botas de montanha são obrigatórias. Leve para comer e para beber com você (precisei de 2 litros).”
