The Fun Side of Pfalstad Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

meralgia: It really kills me to do this, but it's the "responsible" thing. A question was posed, an email was sent, and now (fully knowing the "legal" answer), I feel that I must archive the cache. What baffles me is that Pfalstad's original cache lasted a little over a year without someone raising the question of legality. This one lasted, what, a month??

Anyway, if you're interested to hear what the Public Works guy sent, lemme know.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Inspired by " The Fun Side of the River", GCXTAT, (originally placed by pfalstad on 8/18/2006.) This is one of those caches where the journey to the cache is more thrilling than the cache itself.

Go to the waypoints shown below before approaching the cache. You're looking for a regular cache. Note terrain rating. The placement of the cache is much safer now than it was when the original was in play (where have the mole crickets gone???) You do NOT have to climb the hill or the nearby trees.

Please do not attempt this cache on a rainy day! Depending on the season, YOU WILL GET WET (perhaps only the soles of your shoes, perhaps more). I can't make any guarantees which way the river will run.

You will want to bring:
  • flashlight / headlamp (required)
  • not-so-nice clothes
  • not-so-nice shoes
  • a caching buddy

This was Pfalstad's first cache on the Fun Side of the River® (as King Boreas calls it). The stairs to the cache can be located at N 44° 58.213 W 093° 13.829 though they have been blocked off for the Winter. The cache can also be accessed from the East River Flats where parking is available for a fee.

Disclaimer: To my knowledge, there are no "no tresspassing" signs on the entrance leading to the cache. this does not mean that you are safe from arrest (I cannot specifically find the ordinance that states if it illegal). just because a cache exists doesn't mean you have to find it. as usual, use your own common sense and personal caution when seeking this cache.
