This cache belongs to the SideTracked series.
It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. Its a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too.
Ingatestone has been in existence since Saxon times being established on the Essex Great Road between roman London and Colchester.
The Parish Church is 11th Century in origin with a most striking Perpendicular Tudor red brick tower and it was featured in the publication "England's Thousand Best Churches"
By the 18th Century the town has become established as an important staging post for the coaching traffic along the Essex Great Road. However with the arrival of the railways this importance diminished and the town diminished in size and stature.
The town is now very much part of the London commuter belt, with rush hour train services to match.
The station building itself is Victorian but built very much in the tudor style in keeping with the church and the nearby Ingatestone Hall.
