Geocache Description:

This is a three stage multi. You will be hiking up the Long Path (green blaze) for a short while then onto the spur path (white blaze). You are looking for two small caches and an ammo can. DO NOT GO MORE THAN 20 FEET OFF THE TRAIL! Each stage is fairly close to the trail to minimize environmental impact. Also, I have three permits, one for each stage. The permit numbers are 1-10, 2-10 and 3-10 respectively. Congrats to Walkin' Ed for FTF!

To complete this three stage multi I would suggest parking on Haverstraw Road at N 41° 10.627 W 073° 57.630. The trail head is a short distance down the road at N 41° 10.617 W 073° 57.778. If you have children, hold on to them here as there isn't a sidewalk. I do recommend this hike for children. It isn't really that far (2 miles from parking to final and back again) and my parents brought me here as a kid.

Along the way you'll be walking the Long Path, maintained by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference (http://www.nynjtc.org). You can read more about the Long Path here: http://bit.ly/aTOvt0. You will be crossing a small stream and have plenty of chances to explore a lot. Ultimately you will end up at Youmans-Van Ordens. There is a historic sign that will give the history of the area. It is also the site of the now closed Hi-Tor Vineyards. There is the foundation of an old house to explore, but be careful. One can also see the poles from the vineyard nearby the final as well. Check out the nearby pond as well.

I would suspect with good eyes one will find a lot of nature to observe. Just by placing the cache I saw several deer, many varieties of birds, chipmunks and a stray house cat. I would suggest bring a camera along.

All in all if you’re quick this can be done in about an hour, but I would plan on more time depending on your walking speed and how much nature you’d like to take in.

Enjoy!
