Quinpool Road, Halifax is part of a series of caches giving the origin of the street names in Halifax.
Quinpool Road runs from the Armdale Rotary through Connaught Ave, terminating at what is known as the Willow Tree, on Robie Street - an unusual five-way intersection named for the prominent tree that once grew in the median. The street is commercialised from Connaught Ave to the Willow Tree, and this portion is unofficially part of Highway 102. It is also part of the Nova Scotia provincial road system, meaning that the Province of Nova Scotia pays the Halifax Regional Municipality in part for snow clearing and maintenance.
"During the nineteenth century, Quinpool Road was a dirt track winding through the countryside from the present day conjunction of roads referred to as the Willow Tree, then called Saint Andrew's Cross, down to the Northwest Arm. The path reached the Arm at approximately Horseshoe Island where there was a fishery. A Halifax Irish tradition collected by Michael Punch had it that the name Quinpool Road derived from Quin's Pool the body of water at Horseshoe Island called the pool, near the house of a widow named Quin, hence Quin's Pool Path"- Cyril Byrne, Halifax Street Names
