Deepdene
Station
Deepdene Station, on the
North Downs Line, was opened in 1851 as Box Hill and Leatherhead
Road, renamed as Box Hill in 1887, renamed as Deepdene in 1923
(just after reopening due to WW1) and lastly became Dorking
(Deepdene) in 1987 after the introduction of a semi-fast service
(!) to Gatwick Airport, who knows which name next??? It is operated
by First Great Western and is on the East/West line of the two that
cross Dorking. The main service is to/from Reading/Gatwick Airport.
Strange three coach diesel trains trundle through this very
temporary looking station at half hourly intervals. I get a train
to Redhill from here and when leaving Dorking main station a very
helpful TV monitor tells you the times of the trains arriving at
Deepdene, five minutes walk away. It is rare that the times shown
actually agree with the times the FGW trains
arrive!
The cache is a magnetic 25mm
Film Canister and has a log book only, bring a pen
please!
