Nel complesso delle opere di fortificazione del Sasso di
Cavallasca, la più importante dal punto di vista strategico –
militare è il sistema delle trincee e di cunicoli del "fortino"
del
monte Sasso.
La struttura è di elevato interesse turistico poichè si articola
su
più00 livelli e comprende più manufatti: la galleria centrale a
"U"
scavata nella roccia e realizzata come deposito di armi, viveri
e
luogo di riposo per i militari è circondata per 360° da un
sistema
complesso di trincee e camminamenti con numerosi punti di
osservazione, piazzole per mortaio e mitragliatrici.
Il tipo di fortificazione campale predominante nel complesso
del
“Fortino” è la trincea: di battaglia o di combattimento,
rinforzata
e di comunicazione. La trincea, scavata nel terreno, protetta da
un
parapetto in terra o in pietra e dotata di un fosso ricovero,
deve
adattarsi con facilità al terreno su cui viene costruita;
disporsi
con la faccia principale verso la probabile direzione di
arrivo
dell’avversario; non essere esposta al tiro d’infilata (tiro
di
fianco).
