The stark contrast between the Guildford town and suburbs to the
North and West compared to the wonderful rural landscape seen from
Pewley Down always impresses.
The area was given to Guildford by the Guildford Friary Brewery
after 1918 for enjoyment as an open space.
On the (steep) road up Pewley Hill you will pass the oddly
shaped Semaphore House built in 1821 which was part of the
semaphore telegraph line from Portsmouth to Whitehall. Just after
Semophore House is an underground reservoir. Park up next to this
on a clear day and you will get a great view of the London
skyline.
This should be the first of a few no-nonsense traditionals I
hope to set over the coming months.
A tiny amount of bushwacking is required - well it might deter
muggles. I suggest an entry point a few yards to the West of the
cache.
