the loch of strathbeg is the largest dune loch in the uk and of international importance for pink-footed geese,barnacle geese, whooper swans and avariety of ducks the loch is surrounded by marshes reedbeds, grasslands and dunes
260 plus species of birds recorded, more than 360 species of plants including creeping spearwort {foundat only four other sites in britain} and lesser butterfly orchid.
vital staging post for migrants.with rarities such as crane, spoonbill,temmincks stint, white-tailed eagle and lesser yellowlegs in recent years
autumn
more than a fifth of the worlds pink-footed geese visit the reserve each year. wintering geese ,swans, ducks arrive
at sunrise watch huge flocks of geese in one of north-east scotlands best wildlife spectacles
