SideTracked started at Evesham station on August 10th 2007, placed by schnarff & bikermel76. It took a while to get started, but is now spreading across the country!

It is hoped this idea will spread across the country in the same way as the MMs….but if hiding one PLEASE BE SENSIBLE and remember that in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before, so, although these caches should be quick and easy grabs, PLEASE don’t place a Cache where it could cause alarm!!! (Particularly, please ensure that you are aware of the new rules of 04-SEP-2008 before hiding your Cache!)

History of Marlow Station

Marlow railway station serves the town of Marlow in Buckinghamshire, England. It is the terminus of a single-track branch line leaving the main Great Western Line at Maidenhead railway station. It is known locally as the Marlow Donkey, after the original locomotive based at Marlow station. Historically the line was never intended to be a branch but was planned to extend westwards to Henley-on-Thames; however this never proved attractive enough to raise any finance.

Originally the main line was broad gauge and went from Maidenhead through to High Wycombe, with the branch to Marlow starting at Bourne End. The main line was absorbed by the GWR in 1867 & later converted to standard gauge. The line from Bourne End to High Wycombe closed in the 1960's, so now the train reverses at Bourne End. Upon privatisation in 1996 the station became part of the Thames Trains network. It is now operated by First Great Western.

T.S. Eliot (1888-1965), lived nearby at No. 31 West Street with his first wife from 1918 to the spring of 1919. This was during the end of the first World War, they moved to Marlow owing to the bombing in London. He used to cycle to Maidenhead taking the train to London daily and returning at night. If anyone can say why he didn't use the donkey please add it to your log.

Approach from the Marlow Donkey, down Station Approach. Past the bicycle rack and stop before you get to the station. Well it's not a station as such; I've seen more substantial bus stops.
