La Colonne de la Grande Armée: La plus haute Colonne de France(54 m), située sur les hauteurs du vallon où l'empereur remit solennellement la Légion d'honneur le 16 août 1804, immortalise le Camp de Boulogne qui fut une réelle menace pour l'Angleterre de 1803 à 1805. De style corinthien, en marbre du Boulonnais, elle ne fut achevée qu'en 1841, sous Louis-Philippe. The highest column in France (54m) is located on the heights of a small valley where the Emperor gave the Legion of Honour on August 1804, immortalising the Camp of Boulogne which was a real threat to England in 1803-1805. The Column of "la Grande Armée" commemorates Napoleon's gathering of 200,000 soldiers near Boulogne for a proposed invasion of England. Built in the corinthian style from Boulognnais marble it was not completed until 1841 in the reign of Louis Phillipe. Napoleon's planned invasion of England, though never carried out, was a major influence on British naval strategy and fortification during the Napoleonic Wars. (1803-1815)
