Perchée sur la montagne de l'Epine, la croix du signal est une croix métallique comme il y en a tant d'autres dans la région. Néanmoins, celle-ci est spéciale : hormis son clin d'oeil à notre mascotte préférée, on y accède par des échelles !
Depuis le Col de l'épine, prenez la première route à droite (ici) et garez-vous, au bout, au parking de la Combe d'Armée (ou "Barbizet"). Empruntez le chemin balisé en jaune vers la Croix du Signal (boucle de Château-Richard). 3h aller-retour et 360m de dénivellée sont au programme.
Peu après "la Table des Princes", le chemin se sépare en deux, et vous laisse le choix. A gauche, il passe par les échelles : à déconseiller en temps de pluie, aux personnes ayant le vertige, et aux enfants non-accompagnés (au delà de ça, il s'agit d'un passage de quelques centaines de mètres pas si difficile.) A droite, il continue à grimper et est sans difficulté. Je vous conseille bien évidement d'emprunter le chemin des échelles pour monter, puis de redescendre par le chemin facile. Le temps de randonnée est de toute façon identique dans tous les cas.
Arrivés à la croix, profitez du paysage et à l'attaque... La cache se situe très près du chemin et de la croix, merci d'être discrets dans vos recherches... Grand merci à Tournesol 73 pour la boîte.

At the top of the Epine mountain, the cross of the signal is a metal cross like many other in the area. Anyway this one is special : it not only shares its name with our favorite frog, but you also reach it by taking ladders !
From "Col de l'épine", take the first road in the right (there) and park you car, at the end of it, in the car park of "la Combe d'Armée" (or "Barbizet"). Take the yellow-marked path to "Croix du Signal" ("boucle de Château-Richard"). 3h there-and-back-again and 360m elevation shift are to be expected.
After passing by the Table of the Princes, the path splits in two, and lets you the choice. To the left goes the hard trail, with the ladders (not so dangerous though, unless it rains or you are subject to vertigo, or are a unaccompagnated child). To the right goes the easy trail, with no difficulty whatsoever. I advise you to take the hard one to go up, and the easy one to come back then. The overall hike length is equal in all cases.
At the cross, enjoy the scenery and let's go... The cache is very near the path and cross, so please look for it with a lot of stealth... Huge thanks to Tournesol 73 for the box.
